Platinum Fountain Pen 3776 Celluloid Sakura

The Platinum 3776 fountain pen combines a classic shape with a range of beautiful colors and a beautiful 14-karat gold nib. The fountain pen is named after Mount Fuji, which is 3776 meters high. Just as Mount Fuji is Japan's highest point, Platinum aims to make the 3776 the pinnacle of fountain pen development. Since its launch in 1978, the 3776 has been continuously refined. One of the newest additions is the "Slip and Seal" cap mechanism, which prevents the nib from drying out even after a year.

This 3776 model is made of celluloid. Celluloid, one of the earliest thermo plastics, is becoming an extinct base material for pen making - regretfully as it has beautiful density, shine, weight and of course features the most vibrant and sometimes psychedelic patterns. Today it is used only in a handful of industries including luxury spectacle making. The production of celluloid in Japan has nearly now entirely stopped making this model harder and harder to get ahold of and made in very small quantities by Platinum.

On the writing front, this pen features a 14k gold nib. Whereas nearly all pen makers worldwide subcontract their nibs to specialist factories - the Japanese - namely Pilot, Sailor and Platinum produce theirs in house making truly amazing nibs of great smoothness and weightless feel.
